Obituary

Milton Brown, 79, of Tama passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Carrington Place of Toledo. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Michael Keahna as speaker. Head Pallbearer is Frank Blackcloud and other pallbearers include Homer Bear, Jarvis Bear, Craig Youngbear, Larry Lasley, Richard Wolf, Orrie Lasley Jr., Jon Whitebreast, and Waylon Whitebreast. A Traditional Wake will be held Friday evening, October 5, 2012 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama.
Milton was born on January 25, 1933, on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama, Iowa, the son of Fred and Rose (Whitebreast) Brown.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Toledo.
Milton worked as an iron worker and a bus driver for the Sac & Fox Day School. He was a former Tribal Council member. Milton liked to sing, dance and attend Powwows. He played fast pitch softball and horseshoes. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son; daughter; sister; brothers; grandparents; and a nephew.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Brown of Tama; three sons, Gilbert, Conrad, and Vance Brown of Tama; two adopted sons, Lou Roberts of LeGrand, and Myron Wanatee Jr. of Marshalltown; one adopted daughter, Lucie Roberts of Marshalltown; one sister, Uarda Johnson of Tama; two adopted brothers, Leonard Youngbear of Tama, and Isaac Roberts of Tama; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
