Muriel Elizabeth Rank, 93, of Tama, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home. Masks are encouraged at the attendee's personal discretion.

Muriel was born on February 29, 1928, in Poweshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Elton Sexton and Clara (Fielder) Pearson.

She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1946.

She was married to William W. "Pat" Abbott Jr. on September 12, 1946 and to this union four daughters were born. They later divorced. On December 18, 1971, she was united in marriage to Donavon "Don" Rank in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Muriel helped her husband Don with the family businesses including Rank Floor Cleaning, Rank Vending, Pagliai's Pizza, All in One Convenience Store, Fifth Street Rental, Blue Grass Café and the Second Hand Shop. She enjoyed sewing, making snowmen and Christmas trees out of fabric and reading. Don and Muriel liked traveling throughout the United States with some of the most memorable trips being to Florida, Hawaii, California, and Las Vegas. They took an Amtrak train trip from Ottumwa to Washington state. Muriel loved cooking for her family and everyone, especially pies and bread. Her greatest joy was spending holidays and barbeques with her family. She also enjoyed attending her grandkids sports events.

Survivors include her daughters, Angela Bean of Columbia, MO, Yalanda Wiese of La Porte City, Jacqueline Buchanan of West Des Moines, and Lisa Blomme of Tama; her stepchildren, Donelle Rank Young of Montour, Todd Rank of Marshalltown; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Don on June 19, 2015; six sisters; three brothers; and one granddaughter.

A memorial fund will be established.
