Myrtle Faye Keahna, "Me Skwa Na Kwi", 95, of Tama, passed away, Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Traditional Wake will be held Tuesday evening, December 6, 2022 at the Glenn Roberts' Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Montour. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Settlement with Wayne Pushetonequa as speaker, and Daniel Youngbear serving as Lead Pallbearer.
Myrtle was born on February 13, 1927 on the Meskwaki Settlement, the daughter of Howard and Violet (Wanatee) Davenport. She graduated from Flandreau Indian School in Flandreau, SD and attended Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids. On December 27, 1948, she married Wilbur Keahna. During her working years, Myrtle was a Planner for the Tribe as well as a Community Health Representitive. In her spare time, she loved sewing and created beautiful ribbon shirts. Myrtle also enjoyed playing Bingo, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Tom Davenport; granddaughter, Jennifer Keahna (Richard Harris); grandsons, Wilbur and Gregory Keahna Jr.; great grandchildren Roman and Alexandria Keahna-Harris; nieces, Kathy Wheeler, Babs Pritchett, Kay Deane, Denise Davenport, Dana Davenport and Allison Davenport; nephews, Anthony Waseskuk, Keith Davenport and Kurt Davenport.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Wilbur Keahna; son Gregory L. Keahna Sr; and brother, Curtis "Buddy" Davenport.
