TOLEDO-Neoma G. Wilkens, 91, of Toledo and formerly of Carroll, passed away Friday, January 7, 2011 at Carrington Place of Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 421 E. Bluff St. in Carroll. Interment will follow at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2011 from noon until the time of service at the church.
Neoma was born on December 23, 1919, in Breda, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Heires) Bohnenkamp.
On February 25, 1936, she was united in marriage to Leonard Wilkens at Saints Peter & Paul Church in Carroll, Iowa. Neoma enjoyed baking, going to garage sales, collecting toys and salt and pepper shakers.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leonard in 2003; three sons, Jim, David and Donald Wilkens; and one brother, Merrill Bohnenkamp.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel (Deb) Wilkens of Montour and Michael "Mick" (Mary Ann) Wilkens of Heph, GA; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Carol Wilkens of New Hartford, CT and Bonnie Wilkens of Sac City; one sister, Dardenell Werner of Carroll; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
