TAMA-Norman "Bud" Atchison Sr., age 73, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City due to a short illness. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be Friday, August 24, 2007 from 3-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Norman "Bud" Atchison was born on March 31, 1934, in Iowa City, the son of Arthur and Eva (Smith) Atchison.
He served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany from February 1956 to December 1957.
Bud and his previous wife, Mary Stull, had two sons.
On October 3, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary D. Lewis in Lancaster, MO. He was previously employed at Schafer Egg and retired from Tama Packaging Corporation after forty-two years.
He was a member of the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama. Bud enjoyed camping and fishing, helping at the Eagles and American Legion, and will miss feeding his birds and caring for his dog, Dolly and his cat.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Vivian Brecht and Bonnie Skarda; and one brother, Arnold Atchison.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Tama; three sons, Norman (Kara) Atchison Jr. of The Colony, TX, Mike (Jan) Atchison of Marshalltown, and Tony Atchison of Tama; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Elaine) Atchison of Idaho, and Robert (LaRue) Atchison of Toledo; five sisters, Lorraine Vore of Grinnell, Rachel Coye of Toledo, Mary Chyma of Toledo, Donna Brower of Bettendorf, and Patty Hansen of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial is being established and may be sent in care of the family.
