Obituary

TAMA-Dr. Norman Lowell McCreary, 74, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at his home in Tama. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 21, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 20, 2011 from 4-7 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Norman was born on July 26, 1936, in rural Toledo, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Esther (Ferriss) McCreary.
He graduated from Toledo High School in 1954. He then attended the University of Iowa and graduated from the College of Dentistry in 1961. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and spent two years in San Antonio, Texas at Brooke General Hospital.
On February 10, 1962, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Anciaux at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City. Upon completion of his service duties, he returned to the Tama-Toledo area where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth McCreary.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Tama; his children, Donald (Melissa) McCreary of Hiawatha, James (Catherine) McCreary of Washington, D.C. and Karen (Edward) Pisney of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Michael McCreary, Tyler McCreary, Sarah McCreary, Sam Pisney, Joseph McCreary, Abby Pisney, Jacob McCreary, Nathan Pisney, Zachary Pisney and Grace McCreary.
A memorial fund has been established.
