TAMA-Perry Aaron Durnin, age 51, of Tama, died Monday, December 22, 2008 at his home on the Meskwaki Settlement due to a lengthy illness. Traditional Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Morgan Cemetery on the Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley Sr. as Speaker. A Traditional Wake was held on Monday evening at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama.
Perry was born on July 11, 1957, in Marshalltown, IA, the son of Rae Jean Lasley.
He attended South Tama High School and graduated from Riverside High School in Oklahoma. He served as a Federal Police Officer for the Washoe Tribe in Reno, NV.
In his spare time, Perry enjoyed fishing, wild game hunting, hunting mushrooms, playing pool and sports.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Delphine Durnin; and his maternal grandparents, Harvey and Kewane (Whitebreast) Lasley.
Survivors include his mother Rae Jean Lasley of Tama; his daughters, Starla, Rowwena, Renetta and Cena Durnin all of Tama, Carleen Pacheo of Fallon, NV, and Adia Durnin of Tempe, AZ; his sons, Vincent Pacheo of Fallon, NV, and Eric Durnin of Tempe, AZ; an adopted daughter Jackie Pfrommer of LeGrand; nine grandchildren; his brothers, Jody Durnin and James Shefchik both of Waterloo; his sisters Tina (Tom) Shea of Toledo, Adonica Hennessy of Tama, Delrae Hennessy of Toledo, Lasiene Kapayou of Tama, and Kristin Lasley of Tama; several aunts, uncles and other relatives.
