Obituary

Phyllis Helen Cooper, 89, of Toledo, died peacefully Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Windsor Manor in Nevada, Iowa under the care of Suncrest Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael McAndrew and Deacon Stan Upah officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home followed by a Vigil Service and Rosary at 7 PM.

Phyllis was born November 19 th , 1932, in Traer, Iowa, the 2 nd daughter of Helen A. (Siemens) and Charles Kahler. She graduated from Gladbrook High School.  Phyllis married Richard H. Cooper of Toledo, Iowa at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama on October 29, 1951.  Together they farmed west of Toledo, and then owned 2 family farms which became Century Farms during their ownership.

Phyllis and Richard were members of St. Patrick Catholic Church.  Phyllis was a homemaker and was a perfectionist at all she did.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking and baking and competing in the Iowa State Fair with jams, jellies and baked goods.  She enjoyed time with her family and Church activities.  She had an interest in antiques and collectable items, and participated in Flea Markets. Her home was comfortable and always welcoming.  She showed her love for her family through decorating her home for the holidays, cooking and baking.  Phyllis was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church and her community.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Cooper on October 27, 2006, her parents, her sister Thelma and her husband Joe Karkosh, Sr.

Survivors include her children, Dr. Rick (Kathy) Cooper of Toledo; Randy (Connie) Cooper of Toledo; Kathy (Dana) Schrack of Dubuque; Kevin Cooper of Ames and Lisa Wischler (Monica) of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Brian, Tammy, Brandon, Tiffany, Jennifer, Tom, Samantha, Justin, Elizabeth, Sarah, Emily, Clare, Colin, Brandon and Lilia; Great- grandchildren, Kooper, Jak, Sofia, Candice, Eden, Grace, Baily, Logan, Macy, Leo, and Silas; two step-grandsons Danny and Colten.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama.
