TAMA-Raymond Roy Hardon, age 88, of Hixson, TN and formerly of Tama, died June 6, 2010, at his home in Hixson, TN. Graveside Services will be held Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 10 AM at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held from 9AM until the time of Graveside Service at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Raymond was born on May 31, 1922, in Tama, Iowa, the son on Dale W. and Maymie (Dolash) Hardon.
He graduated from Tama High School in 1940 and attended Iowa State University.
Raymond served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy submarine service on the USS Tang and the USS Aspro.
On June 28, 1942, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Mercer in Chelsea, IA.
Ray formerly worked for Tenneco Corporation (Tama Papermill) as a Machinist Supervisor. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed collecting guns and was also an avid metal detector where he found many artifacts over the years. Ray was a resident of Tama until 1999 and then moved to be closer to his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Frank and Robert Hardon; and one sister, June Suchanek.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of Hixson, TN; one son, Richard (the late Norris) Hardon of Hixson, TN; one daughter, Linda (Ken) Elrod of Chattanooga, TN; five grandchildren, Tim Crawford of Chattanooga, TN, Jill (John) Metcalf of Chattanooga, TN, Matthew (Daisie) Hardon of Wichita Falls, TX, Erin Wilson of Wichita Falls, TX and Jared Hardon of Wichita Falls, TX; five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister, Esther (Charles) Bartosh of Toledo; and several nieces and nephews.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
