Obituary

TAMA-Raymond Craig Kenyon, age 68, of Tama died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5 from 5 to 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Raymond was born on February 20, 1941 in Ottumwa, the son of George Sr. and Hazel Pearl (Wyatt) Kenyon. He attended Ottumwa High School. He was united in marriage to Judy Needham on September 28, 1963. As a young man, Raymond lived in Phoenix, AZ where he operated a Mr. Softee Ice Cream Truck. He then returned to Iowa where he managed a roller skating rink in Webster City. Raymond later worked for United Food Market in Webster City. Following his marriage to Judy, they moved to Guthrie Center where he managed a United Food Market. He was then transferred to Albia where he was also a manager for United. Raymond then served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 until 1971. Other than basic training, his tour was spent at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. Since Raymond's discharge from the Air Force in 1971, he and Judy have resided in Tama. Raymond worked for Gene's Super Valu from 1971 until 1979. For the last thirty years, he has worked for Tama Paperboard, retiring on April 1, 2009. Raymond was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, and the Toledo American Legion. He enjoyed taking weekend trips and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold, George Jr., and William Kenyon; and two sisters, Marjorie Harter, and Ida Kostas.
Survivors include his wife Judy of Tama; three sons, Doug (Patti) Kenyon of Bettendorf, Darren (Jill) Kenyon of Tama, and Todd (Tammy) Kenyon of Tama; three grandchildren, Alex, Niko, and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.
