Obituary

Raymond L. Kriegel, 71, of Toledo passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at his home under the care of his family and Hospice Compassus. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, March 6, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 4-7 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.

Raymond Lyle Kriegel was the 3rd child born to Lloyd & Claras (Henle) Kriegel on June 26, 1943 on a farm located in rural Tama County. He went to school in Brooklyn and graduated from B-G-M Schools in 1961. He worked at Carpenter's Feed & Seed in Brooklyn. He married Mary Ellen Pope on September 28, 1963 in Victor at St. Bridget's Catholic Church.
Raymond spent most of his life farming, first near Brooklyn, then near Chelsea. He and Mary Ellen bought a farm near Chelsea and raised their family there. He was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church in Chelsea where he was on the church board. He was a Knights of Columbus member and a Catholic Order of Forester member. He quit farming in 1995 and moved to Toledo in 1999. He worked at various jobs including as a poker dealer, various truck driving positions, construction positions, and for various farming operations in Tama and Poweshiek County. He was a member of St Patrick's Church in Tama. Raymond enjoyed family outings and his grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special to him.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Ellen Kriegel of Toledo; seven children, Julie (Duane) Cline of Anamosa, Jolene (Randy) Foster of Brooklyn, Mark (LeeAnna) Kriegel of Tama, Renae (John) Kramer of Toledo, Matthew Kriegel of Toledo, Douglas (Michelle) Kriegel of Ladora and Steven (Ashley) Kriegel of Grinnell; seventeen grandchildren, Christopher (Heather) Cline, Sheryl Cline, Sara (Robert) Williams, Justin Cline, Amy Cline, Alex Brownell, Trisha Kriegel, Lacie Kriegel, Derek Kriegel, Jesse Mapes & fiancé Abbi Hebrink, Jeremiah Mapes, Heather (Chuck) Berry, Dalton Kriegel, Destiny Dunning, Rylea & Madison Kriegel & Jacob Schmidt; fifteen great-grandchildren, Blossom Cline, Collin & Spencer Johns, Trey, Kobe & Isiah Williams, Kassidy Cline, Joshua & Mykka Purk, Lukka & Skyla Barajas, Jaxon Mapes & Lincoln Moore, Deakon & Devon Berry; eight sisters, Nancy (Art) Miner, Virginia (Robert) Ricketts, Barbara (Jim) Kelley, Dolores (Gaylon) Kron, Rita Ochs, Janice (John) Beaderstadt, Ruth (Dennis) Solem, Anne (Andy) McCulley; three brothers, Alvin (Barb) Kriegel, Laverne (Roseanne) Kriegel, and Paul Kriegel; his mother-in-law, Margaret Pope; sisters-in-law, Jean (John) Gryp, Joan (Gary) Schafbuch and Marcia (Jim) Shults.
Preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd & Claras Kriegel; and his father-in-law, Merle Pope.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be contributed to the American Cancer Society, St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama, or a charity of your choosing.
