Obituary

Richard Edward Kvidera, 89, of Toledo, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018, at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Private Interment will be held at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Monday, January 29, 2018 from 10-11 AM at the St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Richard was born on February 18, 1928 in Otter Creek Township, Tama County, Iowa, the son of Edward M. and Julia (Melsa) Kvidera.

He graduated from Toledo High School in 1945.

On December 10, 1949, he was united in marriage to Janet Hoskey in Marshalltown, Iowa. Richard was a steward of the land, a strong believer in conserving the soil. He raised Murray Grey and Salers Cattle. Richard was a man of many talents being owner and operator of other businesses, RiChera Vacation Center (1960-1970) renting and selling travel trailers, RiChera Land (1970-1980) a family operated business including an A&W Drive-In and an outdoor roller rink, the rink being designed and built by Richard, and RiChera Grain Trucking (1980-1998). Richard served as a volunteer for the Toledo Ambulance (1970-1980), a township trustee for Toledo Township (1997-2010), and a lifetime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Richard enjoyed traveling, especially camping and visiting the National Parks. Janet and Richard attended the Iowa State Fair nearly every year and also camped there. He was very talented at fixing and maintaining his tractors and equipment. While he was a man of many interests, Richard was a farmer at heart and treasured the land and his work.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Janet of Toledo; two daughters, Debra M. (James C.) Lacina of Tama, and Laura K. (Jason L.) Stark of San Diego, CA; two grandchildren, Matthew (Elizabeth) Lacina, and Kristen (Nathan) Donald; four great-grandchildren, Maisie and Bryce Lacina, Will and Ernie Donald; and one sister, Virginia (Robert) Benda of Toledo.

Preceding him in death were his parents.
