TAMA- Richard A. Petersen, age 64, a life long resident of Tama, went on to Glory on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 in Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center due to a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 1:30 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Gary McClellan officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be Thursday, June 1, 2006 from 4-8 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Richard was born February 22, 1942, the son of John and Mildred McFate Petersen.
Richard was a well-known horseman in the area. He was a charter member of the Ridge Riders Saddle Club and served on the board for the last several years.
Richard worked as a laborer in the Gra-Iron Foundry until it's closing in 1986. From that time on he was a skilled farm hand working for various farmers in the area.
Richard had recently become a member of the family of God at New Life Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in Arab, AL during a six-month stay with his daughter, Roberta and her family in Cullman, AL.
He was preceded in death by his dad, John P. Petersen and a stepson, Clarence Ritts.
Grateful of having shared his life are his daughter Roberta ( Gary) McClellan of Cullman, Alabama; stepchildren, Jean (Chuck Jr.) Cole of Altoona, IA and Marvin (Jody) Ritts of Manson, IA; grandchild, Abigail McClellan of Cullman, AL; Step grandchildren, Jeni, Daniel, Alicia and Kelly Cole of Altoona, IA, and Kayla, Jessica, April and Rachel Ritts of Manson, IA; one sister, Phyllis Stump of Tama; his mother, Mildred Petersen of Tama, IA; a niece, Connie Clow of Ventura, CA; two nephews, Craig (Candy) Steven of Ventura, CA and John (Beth) Steven of Rock Rapids, IA; nine great nieces and nephews and a host of friends both old and new.
A memorial fund has been established.
