TAMA- Rita Kay Malcomson, 58, of Newton formerly of Tama passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 at her home under the care of Hospice of Central Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Dave Gray officiating. Private committal services will be held. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21 from 4 to 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Rita was born on February 10, 1952 in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Rondal and Delight (Plowman) Callahan. Rita was united in marriage to Dan Malcomson on February 14, 1995 in Rochester, MN. Rita was a devoted wife and mother. She had also worked as an advocate in women's shelters. She was very creative and enjoyed decorating her home. She also enjoyed sharing her talents with others. Rita was an excellent cook. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her father, Rondal Callahan as well as her grandparents.
Survivors include her husband Dan of Newton; children, Deanna (Doug) Hagele of Marshalltown, Brian Slaven of Newton, Andrea Malcomson of Rochester, MN, and Adam DeVilder of Minneapolis, MN; her mother, Delight Callahan of Tama; granddaughters Brittani and Autumn Matson, grand puppies Socks and Ruby; and siblings Deb (Jeff) Roberts of Tama, Tim (Patty) Callahan of Tama, Mike Callahan of Tama, Deanna Eakin of Springfield, MO, Dolonna (Wendell) Taylor of Roswell, NM, and Donita (Joe) Marling of Plano, TX
