TOLEDO- Robert G. Anderson, age 73, of Toledo, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in his home following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 25, at 10:30 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Ron Arends officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, 2006 from 4-7 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Robert G. Anderson was born on October 15, 1932, in Tama, the son of Glenn E. and Mrytle Shuler Anderson. He grew up in Columbia Township on the family farm. He attended rural school and Tama High School. On November 8, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Thompson of Toledo at Trinity Lutheran Church in Malcom. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served his country during the Korean War aboard the USS Trathen. After his discharge in 1955, he returned home to begin farming near Gilman, Iowa. In 1962, he and his family moved to a farm southwest of Tama, which they rented until 1982. They then moved to their present farmstead in rural Toledo. He enjoyed farming, feeding cattle and working part time at the special cattle sales at Tama Livestock Auction. He was a baptized and confirmed member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama. He was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant grandson, Sidney in 1977.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn of Toledo; five sons, Rob (LuAnn) Anderson of Atkins, Mike (Cindy) Anderson of Toledo, Phil (Tina) Anderson of Puyallup, WA, Tom (Teri) Anderson of Medina, OH, and Doug (Diane) Anderson of Cedar Rapids; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Phyllis Smith of Tama, Carleen Hand of Tama, Shirley Moffett of Carrollton, TX, and Donna Riffle of Tama; and one brother, Dan Anderson of Tama.
