Robert "Bob" Metz, age 80, of Tama, died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines following a sudden illness.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 10, 2007 at 10:30 am at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 9th from 4 to 8 pm at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Bob was born on February 26, 1927 on the family farm north of Toledo, the son of Walter Lester and Ona Flo (Reavis) Metz. He graduated from Tama High School in 1944. Bob served his country in the US Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Laura Etta Krug on August 26, 1951 at the Tama Methodist Church. Bob owned and operated Twin City Feed and Supply for thirty-three years. He started in 1963 with Les Olsen as his partner, and then on his own from 1986 to 1996 when he retired. Bob was a member of the Tama Chamber of Commerce and the Tama American Legion. He also served on the Tama City Council for nine years. Bob bowled on various teams for thirty years. He also volunteered for many projects for the Tama Chamber, Camp Fire, and Lincoln Highway Committee. In the year 2001, Bob and Laura Etta were honored as Tama citizens of the year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers, and a grandson, Jeremy Johnson.
Survivors include his wife Laura Etta; children, Eilene (Scott Strommer) Johnson of Toledo, Marty Metz of Tama, and Marlene (Jay) Packer of Tama; five grandchildren, Jamie (Anna) Johnson, Brandi (Chris) Timm, Heath (Erica) Metz, T.J. Packer, and Ben Packer; three great-grandchildren, Danielle Kearney, Brody Timm, and Destinie Johnson; two brothers, Bill (Shirley) Metz of Cedar Rapids and Richard (Janet) Metz of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Sharon Kesterson of Oxford; and two sisters-in-law, Barb Metz of Tama and Wilma Krug of Tama.
A memorial fund has been established.
