Robert W. "Bob" Atchison, 86, of Toledo passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 22 from 5 - 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Robert was born on May 29, 1926 in Tama, Iowa the son of Arthur and Eva (Smith) Atchison. He was united in marriage to LaRue Bartling on August 2, 1945 at the Presbyterian parsonage in Toledo. Bob was employed by the Tama Paper Mill for forty-one years. He retired as a foreman in 1984. Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for over fifty years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing pepper, and working outside. Bob enjoyed watching Chicago Cubs Baseball and Iowa Hawkeye Football. He also enjoyed carpentry and even put an addition on to his home at the age of eighty-four.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Paulette Atchison; son, Timothy Atchison; three sisters, Vivian Brecht, Bonnie Skarda, and Lorraine Vore; and two brothers, Arnold Atchison and Norman "Bud" Atchison.
Survivors include his wife LaRue of Toledo; daughter, Debbie (Mel) Blocker of Tama; three grandchildren, Stacie (Eric) Hauser of Tama, Tricia Smith of Toledo, and Ryan (Charlotte) Blocker of Toledo; a step-granddaughter, Wendy (Kevin) Hintermeister of Toledo; six great-grandchildren, Tim and Jeff Hauser, Kourtne and Kolton Smith, and Clay and Conner Blocker; two step great-grandchildren, Kylei and Wyatt Hintermeister; a brother, John (Elaine) Atchison of Harrison, ID; four sisters, Rachel Coye of Newton, Donna Brower of Davenport, Patty Hansen of Marshalltown, and Mary Chyma of Toledo; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
