GRINNELL-Robert Maxfield Wade, age 86, of Grinnell, died on Monday, April 10, 2006 , in St. Francis Manor in Grinnell following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2006 , at 1:30 PM at the St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Tama with Pastor Herb Knudten officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in rural Tama. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 from 5-8 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Robert Maxfield Wade was born on February 26, 1920 , in Montour , Iowa , the son of Winfield J. and Mabel C. Ebersole Wade. He was baptized in the Highland United Brethren Church in 1920.
He attended rural schools in Highland Township #5 and Pleasant Run in Toledo Township in Tama County . He attended Toledo High School and graduated from Gilman High School .
He entered military service on August 28, 1942 and served in the US Army in the 392nd Anti –Aircraft Automatic Weapons Unit during WWII until February 1946.
On January 24, 1944 , he was united in marriage to Mathilda M. Frahm at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Tama. They farmed in Tama County until 1951, when they moved to a farm in Poweshiek County .
He was active in St. John's Lutheran Church where he served on the church council as secretary, treasurer, and as chairman of the congregation. He served many years as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Poweshiek County Farm Bureau and was director for Sheridan Township . He also was on the county extension and served as County chairman. Robert was a leader in the Sheridan S.O.S., and 4-H club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mathilda on March 14, 1989 ; and on sister, Grace Holmes.
Survivors include two sons, Larry (Dorothy Gorsh) Wade of Grinnell and Norman (Lois Wilmot) Wade of Marshalltown; four grandchildren, Aaron Wade of Grinnell, Amber (Terry) Markey of Ames, Cody Wade of Marshalltown and Sara Wade of Marshalltown.
A memorial fund has been established.
