TOLEDO-Robert Francis Wesselmann Sr., 77, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 27, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher officiating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Robert was born October 7, 1933, in Bancroft, Iowa, the son of John and Elizabeth (Detmer) Wesselmann.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, living in Kentucky and Kansas before moving to northern Iowa.
On June 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Joanne Powell in Kansas City, KS. They moved to Tama-Toledo in 1979, where he was superintendent of the Tama waste water treatment plant until his retirement. Robert was a member and past President of the Tama-Toledo Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed woodworking and going to the Casino.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Vincent, Arnold and Donald Wesselmann; and one sister, Leona Auten.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne of Toledo; his children, Robert Jr. of Toledo, Stephen (Karla) of Winterset, John (JoEllen) of Van Meter, Melissa (Don) McCreary of Hiawatha, David (Tina) of Iowa Falls and Eric (Diane) of Hubbard; eighteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Allan of Bancroft; and many nieces and nephews.
