Roger E. Ferriss, 58, of Toledo, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018 at his home under the care of Iowa River Hospice after fighting colon cancer for the past 3 1/2 years. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 20, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 4-7 PM at the Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo.

Roger was born on November 14, 1959, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Warren and Ruth (Vander Heyden) Ferriss.

He graduated from South Tama in 1978. The day after graduation, Roger bought a truck and started a business hauling material for Iowa Electric. He also joined his father in farming and raising exotic animals. The exotic animal business allowed Roger to do a great deal of traveling.

Roger married his best friend, Vicki McBride on Groundhog's day 1985. They had one son, Sam in 1988.

Roger never lived more than a mile from the home farm north of Toledo. Roger was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo. He served 26 years as a Toledo Township Trustee.

In 2000, Roger and Vicki began an unique Barbed Wire art business called Art From The Farm. He served as the manager, travel guru and all around friendly salesman that made the business work. Roger loved traveling and wasn't afraid to go anywhere. He made tons of friends throughout the U.S.

Roger was particularly proud of the fact that his grandson, McKade inherited his big head and big smile.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-three years, Vicki of Toledo; one son, Sam and Jenny (Dahling) Ferriss of Toledo; one grandson, McKade Ferriss; one granddaughter due in August; one sister, Susan Ferriss of Tama; his mother-in-law, Joann McBride of Tama; his sister-in-law, Joan "Kathy" (Mike) Stok of Harpers Ferry; three nephews; and one niece.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his father-in-law, Joe McBride.

A memorial fund has been established.
