Obituary

TOLEDO-Romayne E. Pansegrau, age 81, of Toledo, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 10, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 9, 2009 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Romayne was born on May 21, 1927, in rural Green County, the son of Edward and Hazel (Balcom) Pansegrau.
He graduated from Green Mountain High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On November 13, 1949, he was united in marriage to Doris Gallentine at the Marshalltown Christian Church. Romayne was previously a farmer and also worked twenty-seven years at Swift in Marshalltown. He also delivered motors for Central Iowa Engine and was a part time Police Officer for the City of Chelsea. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a member and officer of The Hawkeye State Archaeological Society of Iowa, Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, Central Iowa Coin Club, and enjoyed collecting stamps.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a stepmother, Dorothy; his twin brother, Wayne; and another brother, Eugene.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Toledo; six children, Dennis (Cheryl) Pansegrau of Toledo, David (Becky) Pansegrau of Tama, Steve (Cheryl) Pansegrau of Toledo, Duane (Debbie) Pansegrau of Toledo, Jim Pansegrau of Tama and Chris (Don) Weitzell of LeGrand; nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a half sister, Phyllis Pansegrau of California; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Pansegrau of Cedar Rapids and Marilyn Pansegrau of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
