TAMA-Rosemary Wanatee, age 63, of the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama died Monday, July 26, 2010 at her home. Traditional graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Meskwaki Cemetery in rural Tama with Homer Bear Jr. as speaker. There will be a wake Monday evening, July 26 at the Garry Davenport Sr. residence in rural Tama. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
Rosemary was born on January 18, 1947 in Marshalltown, the daughter of Harvey and Bertha (Blackcloud) Davenport Sr. She graduated from South Tama High School in 1965. Rosemary was married to Darrel Wanatee on May 26, 1965. She had previously worked as a Title VII tutor aid at STC School and worked as a beverage cart server at the Meskwaki Casino. She enjoyed camping, NASCAR, going to the casino, riding motorcycles and collecting Harley-Davidson memorabilia with her husband.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sons, Darrel Wanatee Jr. and Donovan Wanatee; sisters, Norma Jean Davenport and Eva Lee Davenport; and a niece, Geraldine Davenport.
Survivors include her husband Darrel Wanatee of Tama; brothers Garry Davenport Sr. and Harvey (Ardelia) Davenport both of Tama; sister, Oona Youngbear of Tama; adopted mother, Louise Davenport of Tama; sons, Virgil Lasley and Larry Yazzie both of Tama; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
