TAMA – Rowena Faye Vega, age 46, of Davenport and formerly of Tama died on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport. Traditional Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement with Homer Bear Jr. as speaker. A traditional wake was held Tuesday evening December 15, 2009 at the Lasley Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama.
Rowena was born on May 28, 1963, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Alec and Gloria (Williams) Azure.
On June 28, 1992, she married Roberto Vega in Davenport, Iowa. Rowena had a great sense of humor and was very witty. She loved to bead, sew for her grandkids, nieces and nephews. She loved to go to pow-wows and she loved visiting various casinos, playing the one armed bandit and karaoke.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Isidiro Vega; three brothers, Frank Pushetonequa, Doug Pendegosh and Rocky Pendegosh.
Survivors include her husband, Roberto of Davenport; seven children, Tonya Azure of Davenport, Tashina Azure of Hampton, VA, Rosanna (Hanway) Jenkins of Lawrence, KS, Leona Azure of Davenport, Roberto Lee Jr., Gloria, and Kalila Vega all of Davenport; her grandchildren, Daysan, Aiyana, and Isabelle Azure, Ittibi-Imachokmah Billy, Aliana, Leilani, and Kailina Hanway, and Roberto Vega III; her siblings, Gary and Ron Alexander of Davenport, Ruth and Marty Pushetonequa of Tama, James Pushetonequa of Lawrence, KS, Terry Azure of Davenport, Leona Whiteman of Lawrence, KS, Diana Guizar of LeClaire, IA, Terri Scott of Kenneth City, FL, and Janan Mohler of Diverman, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
She will be deeply missed. She is the wind beneath my wings.
