Roy Edward Silhanek, (42) of Tama, passed away August 29, 2024 at home. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 9, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024 from 4-7 PM at St. Patrick Catholic Church with a Rosary starting at 3:30 PM.

Roy was born on November 13, 1981, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Dale and Beth (Helfter) Silhanek.

He attended South Tama, graduated from DMACC in the Ford ASSET program and received a Bachelors degree from Roger Williams College.

Roy served his country in Afghanistan in the U.S. Army National Guard.

He was married to Sarah Balvin and together they had three children.

Roy was employed by Corteva Agriscience and formerly owned and operated Roy's Auto in Tama. He was active in the Tama Sons of the American Legion and Tama American Legion Post #73. Roy enjoyed coaching for the Tama County Young Guns 4-H Shooting Sports Club and was a Level II instructor for Iowa 4-H Shooting Sports. He also enjoyed hunting, butchering and smoking meat. Roy loved cooking food, many times preparing for friends and large groups. He made friends anywhere and knew people wherever he went.

Survivors include his mother, Beth; three children, Rachel, Wyatt and Caleb and their mother Sarah; two brothers, Virgil (Marcia) of Phoenix, AZ, and Raymond of Ramsey, MN; nephews, Evan and Finn and niece, Taya.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Silhanek.
