Ruth Anna Ferriss, 86, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo.
Ruth was born on September 26, 1930 in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Frances (Vavra) Vander Heyden.
She graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1948.
On March 10, 1949, she was united in marriage to Warren Ferriss in Vinton, Iowa. Ruth was a homemaker and she helped on the farm. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo where she was active in the United Methodist Women. She formerly sang in the Farm Bureau Chorus. Ruth enjoyed traveling with Warren around the country. Later in life she liked going to different towns in Iowa and to the casino. Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family.
Survivors include her children, Susan Ferriss of Tama, and Roger (Vicki) Ferriss of Toledo; one grandson, Sam (Jenny) Ferriss of Toledo; one sister, Evelyn Loman of Springfield, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Warren; five brothers, Charles, Donald, Ralph, Robert, and Elmer Vander Heyden; and one sister, Rosalin "Rose" Fowler.
A memorial fund has been established.
