TAMA-Ruth Ellen Rucker, age 81, of Panora, Iowa formerly of Tama died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the Panora Nursing and Rehab Center following an extended illness. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 PM at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown following the luncheon.
Ruth Ellen Rucker was born on May 1, 1926, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene Vactor and Marie Evelyn (Wilcox) Burnes.
She attended Toledo and Tama Public Schools and graduated from Tama High School in 1944.
On November 23, 1947, she was united in marriage to James Rucker at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Ruth was employed at the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an administrative assistant from 1948-1958. She then became a bookkeeper for Sunny Hill Care Center from 1968-1978 and worked as a property manager for Kenneth Gethmann in Marshalltown from 1978-1991. They moved from Marshalltown to Bella Vista Village, Arkansas in 1991 when James retired. She worked part-time for Vacation Rentals in Bella Vista.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she was a Past President and a Gold Star Member; was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and Past Mother Advisor of Rainbow for Girls; was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama and was also a Licensed Realtor.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Merton Mead, Raymond Burnes, Robert E. Burnes and Richard Burnes; and one nephew, Robert Burnes.
Survivors include her husband, James of Panora; one son, Richard J. (Delynn) Rucker of Lake Havasu City, AZ; one daughter, Deborah Ann (Del) Maxwell of Panora; three grandchildren, Janis (Abel) Zeleke, Jeremy Rucker, and Caasi Rucker; two great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Zana Zeleke; one brother, Donald W. Burnes of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Ethel Rosenberger of Tama; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis, MN and Iowa Hospice.
