Shantel Bear, 34, of Tama, passed away Monday, January 10, 2022 at UnityPoint-Marshalltown. A Traditional Wake will be held Tuesday evening at the Bear Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Settlement.

Shantel was born on September 25, 1987, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Sean Bear I and Vangie Lasley.

She graduated from Meskwaki High School.

Shantel was a loving, kind and wonderful stay-at-home mother who enjoyed spending quality time with her kids. She had taken them on many trips. Shantel also enjoyed being around family and liked playing Halo.

Survivors include her mother, Vangie Lasley (Edward Kapayou) of Tama; her father, Sean (Jana) Bear I of Tama; sister, Shanelle Bear of Tama; brother, Sean (Jaralyn) Bear II of Winnebago, NE, sister, Morgan Bear of Tama, sister, Skye Bear of Marshalltown, sister, Elyse Kapayou of Tama; kids, Shayla Mauskemo, Lance Mauskemo, Maya Wanatee, Tyrin Wanatee, Alaya Wanatee, and Raiden Wanatee all of Tama; husband, Carvell Wanatee; grandparents, Sharon Mervin and Kenny Mervin.

Preceding her in death were her mother's parents, Victor and Irma Lasley, grandfather, Leon Max Bear; cousins, Nigel Lasley, Vernon Lasley, Lester Lasley, Bryson Sheridan, and Wyatt Sheridan.
