Obituary

Shirley Ann Halverson, 84, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.

Shirley was born on January 20, 1934, at home in Elgin, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Vera (Gress) Sutter Sr.

On March 23, 1952, she married Derold K. Halverson in West Union, Iowa. Shirley had previously worked at Meinerz Creamery in Fredericksburg, Iowa, and Elgin Canning Factory in Elgin, Iowa. Locally, she worked at Gaslight Club, Town Pump, and Bill's Tavern. Shirley also baby-sat many local children. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cake decorating, and fishing. She loved roses. Shirley was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama.

Survivors include two sons, Steven (Andrianne) Halverson of Marshalltown, and Brian (Deb) Halverson of Toledo; seven daughters, Karen (Craig) Mann of Toledo, Connie Welsh (Jeff Schultz) of Tama, Robin (James) Buckley of Tama, Brenda (Tom) Anderson of Tama, Candee Garcia of Brush, CO, Raylene (Cuco) Jimenez of Garwin, and Monica Halverson of Tama; twenty-six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Doris Schott of West Union, Beverly Friederich of West Union, Ilo Downs of Overbrook, KS, Audrey Boeckenheuer of Ossin, and Louis (Mary) Sutter Jr. of Central City.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband on November 13, 2012; one granddaughter, Anna Jo Halverson; one grandson, Ian Halverson; one great-grandson, Lando Valadez in infancy; one great-granddaughter, Faith Garcia in infancy; two sisters, Karen Sutter in infancy, and Marie Abarr; one son-in-law, Chon Garcia; four brothers-in-law, Lawrence Schott, Lyle T. Abarr, Jacob Friederich, and Franklin Downs.
