TOLEDO-Stella Melsa, age 105, of Toledo, died Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Carrington Place in Toledo. Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Friends may call from 9:30 AM until the time of service Tuesday at the church.
Stella was born on September 23, 1903, on the family farm, north of Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of James and Anna (Linhart) Cherveny.
On November 17, 1923, she was united in marriage to George Melsa in Toledo. She and her late husband farmed in the Toledo area their entire fifty-six years of married life. She was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, where she was active in the United Methodist Women. Stella was an outdoor person and her project on the farm was attending to a flock of five hundred laying hens. She loved taking care of her yard, garden and shrubs. She also took care of the yard and shrubs at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; five sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
