Obituary

TAMA-Steven Lee Brandt, 63, of Tama, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012 at his home under the care of Mercy Hospice in Cedar Rapids. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Steven was born on October 16, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Bertram and Grace (Dolash) Brandt.
He graduated from South Tama High School. Steven served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He formerly worked for Martin Marietta Aggregate in Ames and had previously farmed with his father for many years. Steven liked hunting, fishing, cutting wood and enjoyed gardening, landscaping and rock and coin collecting. He also liked western movies and John Wayne. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
His is preceded in death by his father in 1979; and one sister, Jean Ann as an infant.
Survivors include his daughter, Gail (Brandon) Lenhart of McCook, NE; his mother, Grace Brandt of Tama; two sisters, Mary Lynn (Ronald) Betz of Tama and Kay (Larry) Feisel of Tama; two nieces, Brandi (Rick) Zhorne of Nashville, TN and Heather Betz of Tama; one nephew, Warren (Nikki) Betz of Tama; three great nieces, Sabrina, Samantha and Sierra Betz; and three great nephews, Shaye Betz, Dakota and Sage Zhorne.
