Sylvia D. Nekola, 88, of Tama, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Hospice Compassus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 2, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM.

Sylvia was born on January 12, 1927, on the family farm, south of Tama. She was the daughter of Joseph and Stella (Vitosvky) Kacer.
She attended country school in Columbia Township, south of Tama.
On November 12, 1946, she was united in marriage to Alvin Nekola at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Sylvia was a homemaker and also helped on the dairy farm. She later retired from Bethesda Care Center after twenty plus years as a nurse's aide. She also worked for Hayward Window in Tama. Sylvia was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama and a past member of UAW. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include three children, Kathy (Roger) Sieck of Toledo, Steve (Karla) Nekola of Tama and Brian (Heather) Nekola of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Rod (Teresa) Sieck, Rick (Denise) Sieck, Scott Nekola, Jason (Kelly) Nekola, Ann Nekola and Javen Nekola; thirteen great-grandchildren, Tricia, Stephanie, Natalie, Meredith, Kaiyla, Kelsey, Kaleigh, Lindsay, Kaitlyn, McKenna, Nash, Kyler and Kari Kay; and ten great-great grandchildren, Stetson, Keith, Laina, Easton, Leah, Brooke, Paisley, Kolson, Jack and Hallie.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Alvin in 1989; six brothers, Joe, Frank, Lester, Charles, Louis and Fred; and three sisters, Mary, Ruth and Alice.
A memorial fund has been established.
