Obituary

Talbert Davenport Sr., 78, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Central Iowa Healthcare in Marshalltown. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Michael Keahna as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Wednesday evening at Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.

Talbert was born on August 31, 1937, in Tama, Iowa, the son of Talbert and Virginia (Jefferson) Davenport.
He graduated from high school in Spokane, Washington. Talbert served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
In 1968, he was united in marriage to Lynn Lasley. They made their home on the Meskwaki Settlement. He was previously employed in construction. In his free time, Talbert enjoyed watching westerns and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Davenport of Tama; four sons, Talbert Davenport Jr., Jason Davenport, Travis Davenport, and Delbert Davenport all of Tama; four daughters, Tamela Davenport (Kyle Johnson) of Tama, Melanie Davenport (Chris Knouse) of Toledo, Daneen Lasley of Grinnell and Dee Lasley of Toledo; one sister, Cheryl Johnson of Des Moines; and nineteen grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Inez (Davenport) Rohach; one grandson, Kyaus Davenport; and two half sisters, Phyllis Potter and Carol Johnson.
