Thelma L. Bakker, 100, of Toledo passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Premier Estates of Toledo under the care of Iowa Hospice. Private Services will be held at a later date.
Thelma was born on April 14, 1913 in Conrad, Iowa, the daughter of Delbert O. and Anna (Moore) Sweet.
She graduated from Conrad High School in 1930 and was a member of the Girls Basketball team.
On June 15, 1934, she was united in marriage to Peter C. Bakker in Ackley, Iowa. Thelma was a homemaker and during war she made instruction books for the Army in Boston, MA. Following World War II she lived in Newton for a couple of years and then moved to Toledo in 1949. Thelma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo, the Toledo American Legion Auxiliary, and a former member of the 19 th Century Club. She loved to play bridge and was very passionate about keeping her home clean and in order.
Survivors include two daughters, Joanne (Tom) Hanus of Tama, and Leah "Pat" (Mike) Kobel of Chandler Heights, AZ; four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Peter in 1979; one brother, Roy Sweet; two sisters, Bessie Rolfs and Mae Christensen.
A memorial fund has been established.
