TOLEDO- Thomas Harry Christenson, age 59, of Toledo, died Saturday evening, July 1, 2006 at his home following a sudden illness. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Mary Schnepf of the Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo, officiating. Inurnment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Thursday at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Thomas 'Tom" Harry Christenson was born of December 17, 1946, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Harry Thomas and Minnie (Randall) Christenson.
He graduated from South Tama County High School in 1965.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He had been employed by the Meskwaki Casino as a Black Jack dealer. He truly loved playing golf, and had even enjoyed a round on the day of his death. Tom was an avid reader, enjoyed watching movies, going fishing and was a real trivia buff. He enjoyed following both the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Colts. Tom was a member of the Tama-Toledo Country Club, Toledo American Legion Reining-Fredrich Post #72, and Tama V.F.W. Post #8373.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Thomas and Minnie (Randall) Christenson; and his stepfather, Forrest "Sam" Schafer.
Survivors include two sisters, Ardis Leister of West Des Moines and Sharla (Larry) DuPre of Hillsboro, Oregon; six nieces and nephews, Lisa, Steve, Tami, and Brad DuPre, Kerry Colwell and Thom Harlow; several great nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
A memorial fund has been established.
