Obituary

TAMA-Tom White Jr, age 81, of Tama, died on Friday, October 17, 2008, in Carrington Place in Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will be private at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Monday, October 20, 2008 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Tom was born on May 14, 1927, in Yale, OK, the son of Thomas A. and Faye (Smith) White Sr.
He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945-1947.
On May 18, 1951, he married Hazel Hanus and the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They later divorced. He lived with a close friend, Gladys Rund for thirty years. He was a truck driver for twenty-seven years for Iowa Electric and retired in 1984. Tom was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama, American Legion Post 72, and the International Electrical Workers. His hobbies included fishing and playing cards at Bumblebee's and later at the Eagles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Vince White; one brother, Robert White; and a special friend, Gladys Rund.
Survivors include one son, Sherman (Deb) White of Toledo; two grandsons, Shane (Vicky) White of Tama and Patrick (Amy) White of Gladbrook; four great-grandchildren, Allysen, Madison, Gina, and Hunter; a special friend, Steve (Mary) Rund of Laurel and their daughter, Annie (Michael) Novak of Des Moines, and their daughter, Juliette Novak; two sisters, Betty (David) Smith of Cabool, MO, and Nell (Bob) Stacy of Ohio.
