Obituary

Troy Donovan Roberts, 54, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Friday, January 29, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Michael Keahna as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Thursday evening at Glenn Roberts' Ceremonial Building, 3005 F. Ave on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Montour.


Troy was born on September 16, 1961, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Isaac and Elizabeth (Wanatee) Roberts. He attended Sac and Fox Day School, Flandreau Indian School in Flandreau, SD, and SIPI Vocational School in Albuquerque, NM. Troy was a craftsman, making Native American Bustles and Roaches. He resided on the Meskwaki Settlement all of his life. Troy loved boxing and was Iowa Golden Gloves Champ in 1976.
Survivors include his significant other, Glendora Mauskemo of Tama; one daughter, Alannah (Kric) Roberts Pettibone of Black River Falls, WI; step children, Jessica Funmaker, Lance Mauskemo, and Eliot Funmaker Jr. and his fine fury friend "Pebbles" all at home; parents, Isaac and Elizabeth J. Roberts of Tama; one brother, Dana "Scobin" Warrington of Keshena, WI; six sisters, Andrianne (Steve) Halverson of Marshalltown, Mona Roberts, Marian "Wasequi" Roberts, Henrietta (Harlan) Brown, Gina Kapayou, and Kelly Johnson all of Tama, Jamie Awonohopay of Shawano, WI, and Annie Saunsoci of Omaha, NE; step-grandchildren Lyla, Jason, and Minnie Roberts; adopted brothers, Keith Mitchell and Leland Morgan; adopted sister, Linda Morgan; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Preceding him in death were three sisters, Norma Jean Roberts in 1982, Marva Lisa Roberts in 2007 and Esterlene "Keshena" Anne Roberts in 2014; one brother, John Fitzgerald Roberts in 2007; a niece, Nora Wynd Moreno in 1995; his paternal grandparents, John and Nina (Youngbear) Roberts; and his maternal grandparents, Frank and Jean Adeline (Morgan) Wanatee.
