Uarda Johnson, 95, of Tama, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019 at her home on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama under the care of Unity Point Health-Grinnell Regional Hospice. A Traditional Meskwaki Service will be held Friday, November 1, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the family home, 1576 305th St. on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama, Iowa. Interment will follow at 3:30 PM at the Garden of Memories in Waterloo, Iowa.  A Traditional Wake will be held Thursday evening, October 31, 2019 at her home, 1576 305th St. on the settlement.

Uarda was born on October 15, 1924, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Rose (Whitebreast) Brown.

She attended the Sauk & Fox Settlement School.

On April 17, 1952, she married Elmer A. Johnson. Uarda worked for Rath Packing in Waterloo and retired after thirty-five years. Her hobbies included beading, dancing, watching Westerns, cards and playing bone dice. Uarda enjoyed being on a bowling league, not eating cheese, and playing the penny slots at the Casino. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include her children, Allen Johnson of Waterloo, Bruce Leitz of Cedar Falls, and Julie Johnson of Tama; brothers, Isaac (Liz) Roberts of Tama and Nathan Bear of Tama; grandchildren, Matthew (Jessica) Johnson, Avery and Sawyer, Stephanie (Sean) Savitt, Griffin, Nicole (James) Leitz-Garcia, Jake and Ella, Blake Leitz, Cassandra (Daemon) Flagg, Jezebel, Dahlia, and Anakin, Ceisha Van Wey, Kenyon and Cyrus, Celsie Van Wey, Cadon and Camran Johnson, Kyler and Kiara Johnson-Whitefish; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and adopted children.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Rose Brown; her husband, Elmer A. Johnson; her siblings, Wilson, Clinton, Gilbert, Marcella, Milton, Bruce and Arlene; grandson; and great-grandson.
