Verna Winifred Taylor, 95, of Tama, passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Friday, October 26, 2012 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Verna was born on September 18, 1917, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon and Ida Grace (Grovenburg) Miller.
On June 20, 1938, she was united in marriage to Lewis W. Taylor in Marshalltown, Iowa. Her life's work was caring for children, raising animals, cooking, and baking. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and giving Christmas gifts. She especially loved spending time with her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lewis W. in 1995; three sons, Louis Vernon, Jess Willard and Robert Eugene Taylor; two grandchildren, Sonya Taylor, and Jimmy Dean Potter; eight brothers, Walter, Harold, Glen, Harry, Adrian, Raymond, Jerald "Jed", and Richard "Dick" Miller.
Survivors include two children, Rose M. (Dan) Kriegel of Tama, and Gary L. (Sis) Taylor of Tama; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren and two on the way; one sister, Audrey (Calvin) Tyer of Polk City; two brothers, Larry Gene (Dorothy) Miller of Indiana, and Donald (Dorothy) Miller of Tinley Park, IL; and numerous other relatives.
A memorial fund has been established.
