Obituary

Verona (Langenbau) Staker, 92, of Traer, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A Memorial Visitation will be held Monday, July 27, 2026 from 9-11 AM at the Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will be held at a later date at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer.

Verona was born on April 24, 1934, on a farm near Gladbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Velma (Prehn) and William I. Langenbau.

She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Garwin High School in 1952. There she met the love of her life, Marvin Staker, at a bowery dance at Garwin in 1950, and they were married June 24, 1952.

Verona worked for Dr. Barbari MD from 1952 to 1954, while Marvin was serving his country in Korea. When he came back, they started farming near Traer, Iowa. In 1970, she started working at Farmers Savings Bank and Trust in Traer and retired in 1998, only to start working for her daughter, Cindy Youel at Staker Furniture in Traer until 2017. Verona was a member of Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer, American Legion Auxiliary since 1973, and held several officer positions over the years. She belonged to Country Friendship Club for many years. In her spare time, she loved to garden and can what she harvested. She also liked to embroider and share her craft with friends and family.

Survivors include her husband of seventy four years, Marvin of Traer; son, Kendall (Lynn) Staker of Traer; three daughters, Cindy (Josh) Youel of Traer, Dawn (Ken) Crawford of Riverside, and Tammi (Scott) Hamilton of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Leigh (Tyler) Sell, Megan (Soheil) Alaghmandan, Brent (Danielle) Staker, Dylan (Madi) Youel, Josie (Dalton) Hulme, Alec (Kim) Crawford, Cole (Lauren) Crawford, Breanna (Rudy) Wieck, and Bryson (Paige) Hamilton; sixteen great-grandchildren, and one on the way; brothers, Orlyn (Doris) Langenbau of Marshalltown, and Harvin Langenbau (Kristy Beck) of Clear Lake; brother-in-law, Tom Christiansen of Gladbrook; her brother Raynard’s long-time companion, Rhea Hoskins; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Raynard Langenbau; and sister, Euna Christiansen.
