TAMA-Victor Lasley, age 80, of the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama died Sunday, December 14, 2008 at his home following a sudden illness. A Traditional Graveside Service will be held on Monday, December 15, 2008 at 2:00 PM at Morgan Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake was held Sunday evening at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.
Victor was born on July 25, 1928 in rural Tama, the son of Harvey and Kewane (Whitebreast) Lasley. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Victor married Irma Youngbear in Tama, and she preceded him in death on January 4, 2008. He was an avid boxing fan and enjoyed joking around and teasing folks.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irma; sons, Vincent, Vernon, Wayne, and Orlando Lasley; adopted sons, Alvin Bear, and Elvis Keahna; grandson, Nigel Lasley; brothers, Clifford Lasley, and Vernon Lasley; sisters, Buelah Beard, Gerladine, and Efie Lasley, who both died in infancy.
Survivors include ten daughters, Vicki (Homer) Bear, Valerie Lasley, Veronica Lasley, Sandra (Owen) Kapayou, Mary (Ray) Tahawah, Vangie (Eddie Kapayou) Lasley, Ann Lasley, Vestana (Brenton) Pushetonequa, Pam Baldares, and Debra Douglas all of Tama; three sons Virgil (Lori) Lasley, Prentiss Wolf, and Adolph Bear all of Tama; fifty-one grandchildren, thirty-nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Jessup Lasley of Tama; five sisters, Marie Davenport, Lynn Davenport, Wanda Lasley, Rae Jean Lasley all of Tama, and Gwenith Lasley of Oklahoma; and numerous other relatives.
