CLUTIER- Virgil Donald Kos, age 75, of Clutier, died Wednesday evening, March 19, 2008 at his home in rural Clutier due to a sudden illness. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Clutier Chapel with Doug Kos officiating. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held Monday, March 24, 2008 from 4-8 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Clutier Chapel.
Virgil Kos was born on May 5, 1932, in rural Clutier, Iowa, the son of Joseph Frank and Lillian (Sotyn) Kos.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On December 11, 1956, he was united in marriage to JoAnne Macosky in Waterloo, Iowa. Virgil farmed northwest of Clutier his whole life where he enjoyed raising cattle and also had a dairy herd for many years. He was a big fan of Allis-Chalmers Tractors and loved the outdoors.
Virgil was a member of the Clutier American Legion Post #453.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, Pauline Herink and Shirley Robinson; and one brother, Jerald Kos.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnne of Clutier; his children, Monica (Mark) Gillette of Rio Grande City, TX, Greg (Sharon) Kos of Lisbon, Doug (Verne) Kos of Clutier and Dawn (Scott) Karr of Dysart; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Leon Kos of Clutier and Lawrence (Corriene) Kos of Cedar Rapids.
A memorial fund has been established.
