TOLEDO- Virgil Vurl Vore, age 99, of Grinnell and formerly of Toledo died Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Rod Wall officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 27 from 9:30 AM until the time of service at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Virgil was born on July 2, 1907 in Doddridge County, West Virginia, the son on Charles and Esta (Freeman) Vore. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Atchison on April 24, 1937 in Marshalltown. Virgil retired from the Tama Paper Mill in 1972. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son James in infancy, three brothers Ralph, Glen, and Blair Vore, and a sister in infancy.
Survivors include his wife Lorraine; three sons Jerry (Willene) Vore of Cedar Rapids, Ronald (Mary) Vore of Belle Plaine, and Fred (Bev) Vore of Vining; three daughters Linda (Dennis) Wilcox of Newton, Sue (Mike) Lewis of LeGrand, and Gloria Jean (Larry) Peebles of Grinnell; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; several step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
