Obituary

TAMA-Virginia Maxine Allen, age 90, of Tama died Friday, January 16, 2009 at Carrington Place in Toledo following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Private interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo at a future date.
Virginia was born on October 6, 1918 in Lake City, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Mabel (Holme) Clark. She graduated from Lake City High School. On November 27, 1940, she was united in marriage to Ronald V. Allen at Lake City. Virginia had worked at Pamida in Toledo for several years, and had also worked for Marshalltown Community College and Royal Dairy in Tama. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Living Faith United Methodist Church, and UMW. She was a former recipient of the Tama Citizen of the Year Award. Virginia enjoyed quilting and bowling in her spare time.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald V.Allen; two grandchildren, Chad and Christopher Clay; and a brother, Melvin Clark.
Survivors include four children, Rosemary (Kenneth) Beckman of Carroll, Ronald (Linda) Allen of Garwin, Colleen (Steve) Clay of LeGrand, and James (Patricia) Allen of Toledo; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Vincent of Lake City, IA; a brother-in-law Richard Allen of Spencer, IA; and a sister-in-law, Darlene (Merlin) Heck of Glidden.
