Obituary

Vivian M. Karkosh, 81, of Toledo passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama where there will be a Vigil Service at 7 PM.

Vivian was born on October 27, 1932, in Elberon, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Mary (Zeman) Yilek.
On April 11, 1951, she was united in marriage to Marvin J. Karkosh at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Chelsea-Vining area and later in the Brooklyn area until 1963 when they moved to Toledo. Vivian then babysat for her grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other families and also worked at Pioneer for many years. She enjoyed helping out at Tama Florist, especially delivering flowers. Vivian loved gardening, Polka music, and cooking and baking for her family and friends. She especially loved her family and spending time with them.
Vivian was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and the CSA Lodge in Vining.
Survivors include five sons, Gary (Betty) Karkosh of Muscatine, John (Jody) Karkosh of Toledo, Ron (Kris) Karkosh of Marion, Terry (Sandy) Karkosh of South Amana, and Dan Karkosh of Cedar Rapids; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Gladys Maule of Delta, Darlene Konicek of Tama, Imogene Taylor of Belle Plaine and Duane (Carol) Yilek of Garwin; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Marvin on March 2, 2000; two brothers, Vernon and Emil Yilek; and one sister, Evelyn Konicek.
