Vivian Jane Smith, 101, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, May 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama with Pastor Warren Riley officiating.

Vivian was born on November 4, 1920, in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of William and Gretchen (Marean) Schmidt.

She was united in marriage to Lionel F. Smith in 1939. Vivian was employed at Irish Egg & Poultry where she candled eggs. She enjoyed baking, gardening and fishing with the grandkids. Her greatest joy was spending time with the grandkids.

Survivors include two sons, Don (Constance) Smith of Johnston, and Bill (Connie) Smith of Tama; one daughter, Suzi VanDeWalle of Chelsea; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Katherine Parks of Moab, UT; and a special friend, Francine Miller-Cox.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Lionel in 1993; four brothers, Jesse Schmidt, William Schmidt Jr., Merle Schmidt, and Fred Schmidt; two sisters, Camella Treece, Pearl Nelson; and son-in-law, David VanDeWalle.

A memorial fund will be established.
