Obituary

TOLEDO-Walter Roger Cherveny, age 74, of Toledo, died on Monday, June 4, 2007 in his home due to a sudden illness. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Alexis Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 6, 2007 from 6-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Walter Cherveny was born on February 14, 1933, in Toledo, Iowa, the son of Fred and Julia (Koutney) Cherveny.
Walter graduated from Toledo High School and then served his country in the U.S. Army
On April 14, 1957, he was united in marriage to Carole Lavonne Beck at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in rural Toledo.
He retired from Amwood Homes in Toledo and prior to that worked for Miracle Playground in Grinnell and Lennox in Marshalltown. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, carpentry, and driving around town in his car.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Robert and Richard in infancy; and one grandson, Dylan.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Carole Lavonne Cherveny of Toledo; three sons, Mike (Ann) Cherveny of Toledo, Steve (Cindy) Cherveny of Marshalltown, and Doug (Mary Jo) Cherveny of Toledo; nine grandchildren, Kendra, Drake, Gabriel, Erin, Eric, Derek, Danielle, Destiny, and Daryn Cherveny; one great-grandson, James Cherveny; and his aunt, Stella Melsa of Toledo.
