Wanda Lee Kapayou, 72, of Des Moines and formerly of Tama, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at her home. A Traditional Wake will be held Wednesday evening, January 1, 2025 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Morgan Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.

Wanda was born on November 27, 1952, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth Kapayou and Anna Mae Black Cloud.

Wanda graduated from Ottumwa High School.

In November of 1996, she married Courtney Hubbard in Des Moines, Iowa. Wanda was previously employed as an event planner in Des Moines. She enjoyed concerts, travel, shopping, dancing, and musicals. She loved spending time with family.

Survivors include her son, André (Kinda) Kapayou of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Shalon Kapayou of Des Moines; and several grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Sharon Mauskemo, Shirlene K. Eagle, and Marge Mauskemo; brother, Jimmie Ward; grandson, Demetrius Ronnie Lee Kapayou.
