TAMA-Wilbur Slick, age 78, of the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama, formerly of Cedar Falls, died peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2008 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Traditional graveside services will be Sunday, July 27, 2008, at 2:00PM at the Morgan Cemetery on the settlement with Michael Keahna as speaker. A Traditional wake was held Saturday evening, (July 26, 2008) at his residence on the Meskwaki Settlement.
Wilbur was born on August 23, 1929 in Tama, the son of Moses and Bessie (Youngbear) Slick. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Wilbur married Eloise Rave in 1957 at Albert Lea, MN. He was employed by the John Deere Waterloo Works for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1987. In his spare time, Wilbur enjoyed hunting, fishing, making silver jewelry, and watching sports, especially football.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eloise; two sons, Paul Slick and Brian Slick; and one brother, Raymond Slick Sr.
Survivors include three sons, Steve (Pat) Slick of Waterloo, Gary (Michelle) Slick of Cedar Rapids, and Duane Slick of Providence, RI; two daughters, Lenora Slick of Cedar Falls and Clarice Slick of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Virgil Slick of Tama; and four sisters, Eurene Dickey of Tama; Naomi Wanatee of Tama, Charlene Slick of Tama, and Audrey Burns of Des Moines. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
