TAMA-William L. "Punky" Papesh Sr., age 58, of Marshalltown and formerly of Tama, died on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City due to a short illness. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will be private. A Memorial Visitation will be Monday, November 12, 2007 from 5-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
William L. "Punky" Papesh Sr. was born on December 25, 1948 in Litchfield, MN, the son of Elmer and Gwen (Nissen) Papesh.
He graduated from Tama High School. William served his country in Vietnam from 1969-1971 in the US Army. He formerly worked for Donaldson Corporation in Grinnell.
William was a member of the VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and one brother, Robert Papesh.
Survivors include two daughters, Betsy (Curt) Sawyer of Montour and Brandi (Jose) Oaxaca of Tama; one son, B.J. Papesh of Tama; two grandsons, Josh and Alex; two sisters, Beverly Crawford of Tama and Barbara (Kenneth) Coye of Newton; two brothers, Brian (Janice) Papesh of Conifer, CO and Barry (Terri Lynn) Papesh of Tama.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
