TAMA-Yvonne C. Jefferson, 74, of Tama, died Saturday, November 6, 2010 in her home in rural Tama under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Traditional Graveside Service will be held Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Asigaguadic (Meskwaki) Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Michael Keahna as speaker. A Traditional Wake was held Saturday evening at the Native American Drum and Dance Society Round House in rural Tama.
Yvonne was born February 15, 1936, in rural Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Wilson and Mary (Pete) Roberts. She was raised on the settlement.
She attended Tama High School.
She married Vernon Jefferson. Yvonne enjoyed attending pow wows, sewing and traveling. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents; parents; two brothers, Gustave Roberts and Nelson Roberts; one sister, Vivena Roberts; and one son, Jeffery Jefferson.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon Jefferson of Tama; three sons, William, Vern and Lavern Jefferson all of Tama; one daughter, LaVonne Jefferson of Tama; one brother, Glenn Roberts of Tama; three sisters, Violet Snowball of Wisconsin, Naomi Chavez of New Mexico and Iris Cleveland of Mauston, WI; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
